Lilian Knowles House has an enviable location 5 minutes walk from Liverpool Street Station and opposite the newly renovated famous Spitalfields Market.
Lilian Knowles house opened in 2006 and was designed to encompass the converted old convent building full of character and some magnificent windows alongside some new construction to the rear of the site. This has created a garden courtyard; a great asset for the summer. A variety of accommodation is available for single students; from one bed self-contained flats, self-contained studios and en-suite study bedrooms in cluster flats with shared kitchen.
For the safety and security of residents Lilian Knowles House has card entry security, electronic locks to all rooms, 24 hour staff cover with daytime reception and evening and weekend security guards. CCTV is located in and around the building.
All residents have access to a common room with sofas, armchairs, TV & DVD. A vending area is located close to the launderette. Covered bike storage is located close to the entrance.
A residents' computer room with 12 workstations will be equipped and maintained by LSE. In addition there is also wireless internet in the common room.
Shared Facilities
The en-suite rooms are arranged in cluster flats of between four and eight bedrooms. Each cluster is self-contained with a shared kitchen and dining area. Cookers, fridges, freezers and a microwave are provided. Ample storage space is provided in the kitchen and each resident has their own lockable food storage cupboard. The kitchen and communal corridor is cleaned on a weekly basis. A vacuum cleaner is provided so residents can clean their rooms. The clusters have an electronically locked front door accessible by the use of a proximity card. Only the residents sharing the flat will have access with their cards.
Rooms
Each room has its own en-suite shower, toilet & washbasin and has an electronic lock accessible by the resident only. A bed, chair, desk with drawers, wall-mounted bookcase, notice board, built-in wardrobe, over-bed light are provided and there are ample electrical sockets for residents to use their own computer, radio etc. Individual, controllable heating is provided in each room. There is also a telephone and internet point for access to the LSE telephone and internet service. Bed linen is not supplied but is available for purchase from the Reception or from local shops.
The building has 2 sizes of en-suite rooms at two prices; size one is 8 - 11 sqm, size two 11 - 14 sqm (these sizes do not include bathrooms).
Studios and Flats
This accommodation is completely self-contained, each with shower room and furniture as described above. In addition each has a mini-kitchen comprising 2 electric cooking rings; combination microwave oven capable of grilling and convection cooking and of course microwaving; a fridge/freezer and a dining table and two chairs. The one bed flats have a bedroom with single bed as a separate feature.
There are several sizes of studios and flats and applicants will be able to select their preference from rooms left available when paying their booking fee (see the 'costs' section below).
